Chef Jorge Aguilar’s Favorite Mexican Food Spots in New York City

Taqueria Al Pastor

128 Wyckoff Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237

In our opinion, some of the best tacos you can get in Brooklyn. As per the name, don’t skip out on their signature al pastor, but our personal favorite is their pollo asado!

Sobre Masa

53 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11249

They quickly became a community favorite in Brooklyn, and it’s no surprise why. Aside from their corn tortillas, we always take home a jar of salsa macha & grab an Oreja (Palmier cookie) or mini concha for the road! They also just opened a new full-scale corn tortilleria featuring a new line-up of tacos in Bushwick.

Tortilleria La Guadalupana

104-23 Roosevelt Ave, Queens, NY 11368

When we’re in need of a big corn tortilla order for one of our pop-ups, there’s no better option. Husband and wife team operating a small tortilleria in Queens. Their tostadas & totopos are also excellent!

La Newyorkina

61 Commerce St, Brooklyn, NY 11231

When the Mexican paleta craving hits, this place delivers. Tons of delicious sabores and flavors, but don’t leave without trying their mangonada! They also offer specialty Mexican food pantry items you can pick up if you’re cooking or baking at home, as well as, large party kits for churros and ice cream cakes for your celebrations.

La Huerta

47-54 47th St, Woodside, NY 11377

A small, family-owned Mexican grocery we pop in, frequently, for a wide selection of Mexican snacks/chips & dry goods. They also have great Mexican produce options, baked goods & weekend tamales!

Tulcingo Bakery

103-02 Roosevelt Ave, Queens, NY 11368

Pan, pan y más pan dulce. We’ll never get enough of their baked conchas, empanadas de piña, mantecadas (Mexican muffins), cuernitos, just to name a few! A must stop in Corona, Queens.

Citlali

Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Mexican chilaquiles made with love & by our neighbor in Greenpoint – enough said. We can’t wait for their brick & mortar to open!
